A day in Pre-K begins with the Question of the Day and free play before we gather together for circle time where we learn calendar and weather concepts and talk about what we will learn that day. We separate into small academic groups for our phonics and math lessons. We use Saxon Phonics and Saxon Math (at a kindergarten level) as well as “Land of the Letter People” and “Learning Without Tears” enrichment lessons focusing on multi-sensory strategies and interactive learning approaches. Both the morning and afternoon sessions include daily center activities, in which the students rotate between hands-on and written activities that serve to supplement that day’s lesson, strengthen fine motor skills, encourage creativity and foster problem-solving skills. Students move through the centers at their own pace and activities are adapted towards individual skill and interest level. Children will have morning snack, create art projects and enjoy playground time. Our goal is for all our children to love learning and to be socially and academically prepared for kindergarten.
